Post 1 readings
I hate to beat a dead horse but I also really enjoyed reading about the Johar family. It was extremely interesting to me to read how they approached not only literacy in the home but raising the children as well. The other article talked about the value that can be found in home visits and this home is one I would really like to visit as a teacher. The children in the family demonstrate their funds of knowledge both in the home and can do so outside while in school as well. We see some of the kids building their funds of knowledge with the intent of using it in school. The little girl practiced her game so that when she got to school she would be the best in the class. The mother signing to her children before they go to sleep is a literary practice I had not considered. I love that these readings and our class discussions are expanding my thinking about Literacy!
